When looking a the distribution of housing in Kent county based on the year it was built, the following items are worth noting:

  1. 17.7% of all the houses in Kent county were built before 1939 as compared to 15.3% for the state of Michigan.
  2. A total of 23.2% of the housing stock of Kent county was built before 1949 compared to 23.4% statewide.
  3. 35.8% of all the houses in Kent county were built before 1959 compared to 38.8% statewide.
  4. Between 1960 and 1979 saw the construction of roughly 26% of all houses in Kent county and the state of Michigan.
  5. 12% of the total housing stock of Kent county was built between 1980 and 1989 as compared to 9.9% for the state of Michigan.
  6. Finally we find that 27.7% of all the housing in Kent county was built after 1990 compared to 23.6% for the state of Michigan.

Based on the data above we can conclude that the housing stock for the target market of Kent county is actually quite old. 72.3% of the total housing stock of the county was built before 1990.
