4.19 Industry Payroll for Target Market Analysis

The Industry payroll analysis for cleaning services in Kent County has three sections:

  1. The first part analyzes the total annual payroll for all roof contracting establishments in Kent county over a decade.
  2. The second part looks at the total number of paid employees working in roof contracting establishments in Kent county over a decade.
  3. And finally, the third piece of this analysis looks at the average annual employee payroll for roofing contractors in the target market of Kent county.

Total Annual payroll for the Industry:

  1. In 2005 the total annual payroll for all roof contracting establishments in Kent county was $15,268,000.
  2. However as the real estate market slowed down we see that this number streadily decreased to $10,368,000.
  3. In 2007 there was a jump back up to $12,168,000 only to be followed by another slowdown all the way to $9,573,000 in 2010.
  4. Between 2011 amd 2014 there has been a modest uptick in the total annual payroll from $11,290,000 to $12,035,000.


Total number of paid employees:

This part of the analysis is simply obtained from the establishments and employees analysis covered earlier.

Average annual employee payroll for individual employee:

  1. Please keep in mind that the roof contracting industry has a lot of folks who work on a off the books / cash basis and these numbers simply cannot be factored into official government data.
  2. In 2005, the typical emplyoee working at a roofing contractor in Kent county, Michigan made $35,018.
  3. We find that by 2006 this number had jumped to $43,151.
  4. After dropping off in 2007, we find that the average annual employee payroll increased steadily to $50,173 in 2012 inspite of a reduction in the total number of paid employees. We can only attribute this to the fact that while the roofing contractors in Kent county did not hire back any more employees after the real estate crash, they have probably been getting more work out of the existing employees and also paying them better for their work.
