4.17 Target Market Housing Stock by Number of Rooms

The following observations can be seen when analyzing the distribution of the housing stock by number of rooms in Kent county and the state of Michigan:

  1. The number of homes with less than 3 rooms for both Kent county and the state of Michigan is approximately 10% of the total housing stock.
  2. 13.8% of the total housing stock of Kent county has 4 rooms in the house as compared to 14.4% statewide.
  3. 16.5% of the total housing stock of Kent county has 5 rooms in the house as compared to 21% in the state of Michigan.
  4. When it comes to houses with 6 rooms - 17.8% of all the houses in Kent county fall into this category. For the state of Michigan this number is 20.1%.
  5. Likewise in the case of homes with 7 rooms - in Kent county theses homes are 14.4% of the total as compared to 13.5% statewide.
  6. The number of home with 8 rooms in Kent county are 10.9% of the total as compared to 9.3% statewide.
  7. And finally, homes with more than 9 rooms are 16.5% of all homes in Kent county as compared to only 11.6% statewide.

The count of rooms includes the number of bathrooms and kitchen in the house. Thus we can see the 62.7% of the total housing stock of Kent county is composed of homes that have been 4 to 7 rooms - basically 1 bedroom to 3 bedroom dwellings. Additionally more than 75% of the housing stock belongs to dwellings that have more than 5 rooms indicating single or multi-family homes. This bodes well for contractors like James and Carmine - the larger the presence of single family homes, the higher the need for roof repairing and replacement services.
