4.19 Consumer Expenditure on Food away from Home by Education

In this section of the business plan we look at the annual spending by consumers on foods away from home, when classified by their level of education.

Once simple explanation for this trend is quite simply that folks with better education are able to generate higher levels of income and thus afford to spend more on foods away from home when compared to those with say Less than High School level education. This relationship between income and education has been well established in all demographics both nationally and internationally.

Another interesting trend that is visible when looking at the % change over the decade is that highest increase in spending on foods away from home in by folks with an associates degree ( 33.5%) and those will less than a high school education ( 21.1%). Thus while the actual dollars spent by these folks on foods away from home may still be less than say the absolute dollars spent by those with a Masters / Doctorate degree, there has been a much larger % increase denoting an interesting shift.
